Water Tracker — Feature Guide
Water Tracker
The Water Tracker is available in our latest version of the Ladder app. Members must have a nutrition plan activated to see it.
Two surfaces: in-app tracker vs. home screen widgets
There are two separate ways to interact with water tracking:
- In-app Water Tracker — lives inside the Ladder app under the Nutrition tab. This is the full-featured tracker with history, goal management, and detailed logging.
- iOS Home Screen Widgets — optional widgets you add to your iPhone home screen (Fill Your Bottle, Water + Quick Add). These are quick-log shortcuts that feed into the in-app tracker. They are configured separately via long-press → Edit Widget.
Most settings (goals, history, units) live in the app. Home screen widgets have their own limited customization for quick-add amounts and bottle style.
What is the Water Tracker?
The Water Tracker lets members monitor their daily water consumption throughout the week. It calculates a personalized hydration goal based on body weight, which can be customized. Members log water as they drink it and track progress toward their daily goal.
Where is it?
The Water Tracker lives in the Nutrition section. Once in the Nutrition tab, members will see the Water Tracker widget in the middle of the screen by default.
How is the goal calculated?
The default goal is set to half the member's body weight in fluid ounces — a widely used hydration baseline. For example, a 180 lb member would have a default goal of 90 fl oz. The equivalent is also calculated for members using milliliters. This is set automatically based on their profile for both new and existing nutrition users.
How to customize the goal
Go to Manage Goals in Nutrition, find the Water Tracker section, and adjust the daily target. Members can also switch between fluid ounces and milliliters here — it defaults to whichever unit matches their imperial/metric setting.
How to log water
In the app: Tap the + button on the Water Tracker widget to open a quick-log screen. There are four default presets plus a custom option. Tap a preset to log instantly, or enter a custom amount. There is also a + button inside the expanded tracker view.
From a home screen widget: Tap the quick-add buttons directly on the widget (Fill Your Bottle or Water + Quick Add). When a log goes through, an undo button appears in the app for about 3 seconds.
Can presets be customized?
Yes — in two places, depending on the surface:
- In-app presets: Tap into the Water Tracker and edit any of the default presets from within the tracker view.
- Home screen widget presets: Long-press the widget → Edit Widget to set custom quick-add amounts and bottle style.
How to edit or delete a water entry
Tap into the Water Tracker widget (in-app) to see the history. Swipe left on any entry to delete it. Members can also log retroactively to a specific time and date if they forgot to log earlier.
How to view hydration history
Tap into the Water Tracker widget (in-app) to view history. It defaults to the current week. Swipe back to view previous weeks.
When does it reset?
The daily water tracker resets at midnight based on the member's local time zone.
Does it sync with Apple Health?
Water tracking does not currently sync with Apple Health. Log water directly in the Ladder app or via your home screen water widget.
How do I customize my water widget? How do I change bottle style or quick-add amounts?
To customize water widgets, long-press the widget → Edit Widget.
Fill Your Bottle (Small): Set your default quick-add amount and choose your bottle style — The Ladder (default) or The Stan.
Water + Quick Add (Medium): Set three custom quick-add amounts for the three buttons (e.g. 8oz / 16oz / full bottle).
To switch between mL and oz: Open Ladder → Manage Goals to change units app-wide, or change units in Edit Widget for just that widget.
Changes save automatically when you tap out.
