How do I access and view my Ladder Journal records?
The Ladder Journal lets you log and review your workout records.
To log records during a workout: Pull the bottom screen up during your workout. You can log records after each movement or during rest breaks, and your previous records for that movement are displayed for reference.
To view your history of logged records: Go to your Profile, where you can see a history of progress for your logged movements, including interactive graphs and charts.
How do I enter things into the journal?
Swipe up from the bottom of the screen (or pull the bottom screen up)
The Journal opens — you'll see your reps/weights fields Log your reps and weights after each movement or during rest breaks You can also see previous records for reference to track your progress
That's it! The Journal lets you log what you actually do during the workout so you can monitor your progress and stay accountable over time. You can also access your full history of logged movements anytime in your Profile to see graphs and charts of your progress.
Can I edit my journal?
On the iOS app, you can edit your journal after a workout: tap the badge of the completed workout, then tap the journal icon in the top right corner to add or change reps, weights, and notes.
The web app works differently. On the web, you log reps and weights while the workout is in progress: press Start on the workout, log each set as you go, and tap Complete Workout at the end to save. Once a workout is finished on the web, there is no way yet to go back and add or change journal entries for it, and the set buttons on a workout you haven't started won't respond. The Journal page on the web (joinladder.com/app/journal) shows your logged history per movement.
If you finish a workout on the web without logging your sets, you won't be able to add those numbers afterward on web. You can add them on iOS if you have access to it, or log your next session live on the web.
When logging dumbbell exercises, should I enter the weight of a single dumbbell or the combined weight?
For single-arm or alternating exercises, record the weight of one dumbbell. For movements that work both sides at once, log the total combined weight.
Can I track reps and weights in Ladder Web?
Yes, while the workout is in progress. Press Start on the workout, log your sets as you go, and tap Complete Workout at the end to save them to your journal. The web app can't yet add or edit reps and weights for a workout after it's finished. Logged numbers show up per movement on the Journal page (joinladder.com/app/journal), and your workout calendar is on your profile (joinladder.com/app/me, Activity tab): tap a date to see the workouts you completed that day.
What is Auto-Check Journal and how does it work?
Auto-Check is a new feature (added in Ladder 4.4.0) that automatically logs and checks off a set when the rest timer elapses. It's turned on by default for bodyweight movements only — so if you finish a set of push-ups and the rest timer runs out, it automatically marks that set as complete for you.
How do I turn off Auto-Check Journal or change its settings?
Go to Settings → Workout Preferences to toggle Auto-Check on or off. Turning it off restores the previous manual behavior where you check off sets yourself.
You can also expand Auto-Check to apply to all movements (not just bodyweight) from the same settings screen. This setting can be changed before or during a workout.
What are Volts?
Volts increase when you log records in the Journal. The score depends on the movement and data. Aim to beat your daily score. Volts are an evolving feature. (Experience may vary as features are tested).
What is a 1 Rep Max Estimate (1RMe)?
An estimate of the most weight you could lift for one rep, calculated from your top sets using the Epley formula: 1RM = Weight × (1 + 0.0333 × Reps). Tracks strength gains safely.
What is a PR?
Personal Record. This could be your max weight lifted or your highest 1 Rep Max Estimate for a movement.
