Plateau Alerts

What is a Plateau Alert?

A Plateau Alert is an insight, not an alarm. When Ladder detects that your progress on a specific exercise may have stalled, it shows an alert in your workout preview and workout journal, so you have the information to make your next move. It's designed to complement your coach's programming and support progressive overload over time.

Where do I see Plateau Alerts?

They appear in your workout journal on the relevant exercise. You'll see the alert on the movement preview for the workout, or during the workout in the section overview or the workout journal.

Does a Plateau Alert mean I'm doing something wrong?

Not at all. Plateaus are a normal part of training, especially as you get stronger. The more advanced you become, the fewer and farther between the gains tend to be. A plateau alert is a helpful nudge, not a red flag.

What should I do when I get a Plateau Alert?

It's a signal, not a prescription. Use it as one input, and always listen to your body and your coach first. You could:

  • Try a small weight increase on your next session
  • Focus on rep quality or rep count at your current weight
  • Stay the course. That's completely valid if you're not feeling right, you're working on form, it's a technically demanding movement, or your coach is advising you to hold.
Can I turn off Plateau Alerts?

Yes.

  • **Silence one movement:** do it from the alert itself.
  • **Turn the feature off entirely:** go to Workout Settings and disable Plateau Alerts.
  • **Get alerts back for a silenced movement:** go to Workout Settings and remove it from your silenced movements list.

If an alert didn't feel right, take a screenshot and share it with us. We read every submission.

How does Ladder detect a plateau?

Ladder looks at your recent journal entries for each exercise. When your estimated strength, based on your logged sets, reps and effort, hasn't meaningfully improved across your last several sessions, an alert is triggered. Detection uses recent data only, not your all-time history.
